SOS Children Village Cholpon-ata

Official opening of SOS Children’s Village Cholponata took place in June 22, 2002. First children were admitted to the Children’s Village in December 2002. At the beginning there were only fourteen children but year after year this number was raised. At present SOS Children’s Village Cholponata is a home for 114 children. 77 of them stay in the Children’s Village. SOS Children’s Village is a family based care model, and so in each of twelve family houses there are children staying together with their SOS Mothers in hearty and comfortable atmosphere. For more than ten years Village director Mr. Abdiev makes every effort for providing children in difficult life circumstances with safe childhood and confidence in the future. All the co-workers of the Children’s Village work as one team in the interests of the children, in the spirit of UN Convention on the Child Rights and in accordance with SOS Child Protection Policy.

SOS children study at Alykul Osmonov secondary school located in the town. Before secondary school children receive pre-school education at Hermann Gmeiner Kindergarten located in the Children’s Village territory. In addition to schooling children keenly attend optional English classes, sport sections on freestyle wrestling, football, city music school and sewing classes. Our girls repeatedly have won the contest on applied arts and crafts, and the boys have won football matches more than once. A large variety of activities are organized for the children, such as vocational guidance, training on sexual education, hiking, etc.
